About the job
Truetax, the operating system for government tax agencies, is seeking a Senior / Staff Software Engineer who can also do product design. You will work alongside the founders (experienced entrepreneurs with multiple venture-backed exits) to design, develop, and deliver cutting-edge GenAI agents and workflow systems. You will help shape our engineering processes, moving fast to deliver while maintaining the highest quality. We need a self-starter who is curious, self-motivated, relentless in self-improvement, and who can motivate all those around them. You need to be willing to spend time understanding government workflows and be ready to ship code fast.

Responsibilities
Research, design, architect, and implement product features and improvements of our GenAI powered system
Help build and scale high-performing engineering teams while owning our CI/CD infrastructure—balancing speed, reliability, and developer productivity
Manage and communicate timelines

Requirements
Worked professionally on a Phoenix Liveview (Elixir) code base or has sufficient personal experience with it to be productive from day 1
Have been in a staff / senior position for 2+ years
5+ years of professional software engineering experience
Experience and knowledge of LLMs, RAGs, vector DBs, evals and how they interact (ie not only how to just use the APIs)
Background as a full-stack product engineer + some start-up experience
Have experience dealing with an evolving MVP code base, ideally having taken from 0 to 1 & beyond.
Ability and understanding on how to design and build intuitive UXs (small items yourself, more complex ones with our product designer)
Will actively seek out users to get product feedback and act accordingly
Willing to spend 2 weeks a quarter in-person with our customers
Curious and open-minded to find and explore new avenues and ways of making things better

Salary & Equity:
$150k – $220k
